WHAT IF

By Kayode Shopekan

lostful thought

What if Dangote was the president of Nigeria?

And ruled Nigeria like he runs his company?

What if politicians were paid on commission and not salaries?

What if elected officials had to swear at ogun’s shrine?

What if teachers were saddled with the responsibility of appointing rulers?

What if politicians were pastors?

What if governors could be flogged for failing to perform at the end of their tenure?

What if senators and reps members could be made to forfeit their properties after their tenure in office?

What if our police uniform was white and not black?

What if Nigerians fail to comply when asked to give bribe?

What if all Nigerians could just be truthful?

What if honesty wasn’t so rare in Nigeria?

What IF?

PAPER Q.

 By Kayode Shopekan

Running helter skelter, from pillar to post

Is man’s activity

“No dying no resting “

Is the motto he drives

He swiftly blends in to pursue paper

On his behalf 6 years are pledged

So for some twelve hours of the next 6 years, he is a prisoner

Nobody consider him a factor in the situation

On his behalf,

A plan is carefully constructed

Which he must follow through

Again he is isolated in the decision making process

So still in the pursuit of paper Q

He is dedicated to confinement

Though this time, his jail term of 6 years can be divided in to equal halves

But, he still must follow through

He is always locked in,

Within the four walls of a gate

At times cries and fights but it adds up to nothing

In the pursuit of this paper

Which can be a tissue that ladies use

Paper!

On his own now

He dedicates the next 4 years of his life

Just to acquire paper

Which can be bought at the market, bookshop, printing press etc.

At last he gets it

But he uses it not

Oh! What a waste.

HAPPY IDIOT

By

Kayode Shopekan

A grand reception announces his arrival

Though his presence not important but highly feared

Rather than welcome him with a warm embrace

Onlookers hide their faces

Passersby quickly disperse

Though as gentle as a …

Yet as fearsome as a …

He walks past oblivious of all side talks

Gorgeously arrayed in an half naked attire

Carrying an unimpressive dreadlock

With his almost shredded basket hanging around his neck

He walks with his shoulders high

Sitting on a road where three foot paths meet to enjoy his delicious meal of

Spoilt bread and akara

Then poses with a weird smile

“Haven’t you seen a happy idiot before?”
